General Counsel and Assistant Chaplain of the MBA/WMBA.
As General Counsel, Stephen advises on legal affairs and special matters of the MBA and WMBA. He also serves as Assistant Chaplain to supports the league leadership, athletes, families, and support staff with pastoral and spiritual care.
Before joining the MBA/WMBA in 2024, Stephen served as an Army Lawyer with the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps where he was a legal advisor, litigator, and investigator in various capacities, including Special Operations, Intelligence, Criminal Justice, Administrative Law, Environmental Law, and Constitutional Law. During active duty Stephen was a member of the All-Army Distance Running Team and continues as a competitive and holistic distance runner since high school and college. After military retirement he served with the Department of Defense Office of Investigation of Senior Officials, then as Special Assistant to the General Counsel at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Stephen is a graduate of Colgate University (B.A.), North Carolina Central University School of Law (J.D.), The Judge Advocate General’s School at University of Virginia (LL.M.), Pace University School of Law (LL.M.), National Intelligence University (M.S.S.I.), Fielding Graduate University (Ph.D.), and is currently in-residence studying for a Masters of Divinity at Virginia Theological Seminary (Alexandria, Virginia). Stephen believes in and practices holistic health and wellness as an experienced registered yoga teacher (E-RYT 1000) and internationally certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT).
Stephen is committed to community and church service. Since his childhood in Harlem he continues serving people in need with regular local and international service, including Operation Crossroads Africa, Peace Corps, George Washington University Milken School of Public Health (Adjunct Faculty and Student Success/Life Coach-Mentor) , Neabsco Baptist Church, Virginia Theological Seminary Office of Lifelong Learning, and as Founder of Christ Moves Now Health and Wellness Ministry. He serves regularly as a leader of retreats and programs for service-disabled Veterans and military families.
